Placement and Function

The inflatable silicone elastomer cylinders of the AMS Ambicor® are implanted within the corporal bodies of the penis from the ischial tuberosity (the crus) to the mid-glans. The pump is implanted in the scrotum.

A – To inflate the device, the patient squeezes the pump bulb several times.

B – Squeezing the bulb transfers saline solution from the reservoirs at the proximal end of the cylinders into the inflatable cylinder chambers, creating an erection.

C – To deflate the device, the patient bends and holds the prosthesis for 6-12 seconds and release it. Once the bend is released, the penis can be squeezed to deflate the remainder of the fluid from the prosthesis.

D – Pressure from bending the cylinders causes the reservoir valves to open, allowing the saline solution to flow out of the cylinders, leaving the penis flaccid.
