The UroLume®
Urethral Stent is placed transurethrally in an outpatient setting. The
stent is a biocompatible super alloy mesh tube that self-expands,
holding the urethra open at the point of obstruction. Each stent is
packaged preloaded in a specially designed delivery system that includes
an optical telescope stabilizer.
For BPH, the stent is placed in the prostatic urethra.
- To prevent encrustation, be sure stent does not protrude into bladder.
- To prevent patient incontinence, avoid distal placement in the external sphincter.
- Select stent length 1/2 cm shorter than measurement taken from mid-verumontanum to bladder neck.
- Place stent from bladder neck to verumontanum.
