Placement & Function

The UroLume® Urethral Stent is placed transurethrally in an outpatient setting—usually within 10-30 minutes.¹ The stent is a biocompatible super alloy mesh tube that self-expands, holding the urethra open at the point of obstruction. Each stent is packaged preloaded in a specially designed delivery system that includes an optical telescope stabilizer.

For DESD, the stent is placed in the external sphincter.

The stent must cover the entire length of the external sphincter.

  • During placement, distal edge should extend at least 5 mm into the bulbar urethra.
  • Proximal edge should cover the caudal half of the vermontanum.
